Nurse Specialist in Pregnancy Advisory Service

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Nurse or Midwife to work in the Pregnancy Advisory Service at the Central Health Clinic.
The Pregnancy Advisory Service is a nurse-delivered, consultant-covered service based at Unity Sexual Health (Central Health Clinic). The role involves patient consultations, ultrasound scanning, informal counseling, sexual health screening, providing contraception advice, and consenting for abortions.

Main Duties of the Job- Provide a full range of nursing skills within the Pregnancy Advisory Service.
- Offer confidential and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services, including the use of Fraser Guidelines.
- Administer and/or issue prescribed medication as appropriate, following NMC professional guidelines, working from PGDs or Non-Medical Prescribing as necessary.
- Use professional judgment to seek advice or refer to medical colleagues.
- Be aware of and adhere to NMC, Trust, and Directorate policies and procedures.
- Adhere to departmental protocols, procedures, and guidelines for clinical care to ensure a high standard of care is delivered to all service users.
- Perform testing, obtain swabs, and specimens as necessary, and provide advice and information to patients regarding cervical cytology.
- Provide health promotion relevant to patient needs.
- Promote sexual health and advise on the transmission of sexually transmitted infections and ways to reduce those risks.
- Perform ultrasound scanning to confirm pregnancy and gestation, following in-house training.
- Participate in and run nurse-led clinics, and be able to use professional judgment to seek advice or refer to medical colleagues or other agencies.

Person Specification- Interest in and commitment to providing safe abortion care.
- Relevant post-registration nursing or Midwifery experience.
- Up-to-date knowledge and experience of working in a sexual health/contraception/abortion/Gynaecological service.
- Experience of instruction and assessing in clinical practice, i.e., supporting students and new staff members.
- Experience of working with all age groups, genders, and sexualities.
- Experience of safeguarding patients.
- Experience of leading or managing a team.
- Ultrasound scanning experience in the first and second trimester.
- Registered General Nurse/1st Level Registration.
- Current NMC Registration.
- Qualification in Teaching, Assessing, and Mentoring.
- Recognised Contraception and Sexual Health Course (Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare).
- FSRH Letter of Competence in Insertion and removal of Subdermal Implants SDI.
- Highly effective verbal and written communication and negotiation skills - to staff, patients, and relatives, including in situations of conflict or distress.
- Strong organisational skills - prioritising complex situations.
- Skills in caseload management and record keeping.
- Demonstrates the ability to lead and influence change.
- Demonstrates an ability to take overall responsibility and accountability.
- Flexibility, adaptability to meet the needs of a changing service.
- Demonstrates an ability to act as facilitator, mentor, and supervisor to colleagues.
- Information technology skills: including MS Word; MS Excel; MS PowerPoint.
- Commitment to the development and provision of high-quality nursing care.
- Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, autonomous, and show initiative.
- Demonstrates a non-judgmental attitude.
- A good team player.
- Willingness to complete in-house USS training programme if not completed elsewhere.
- Be able to speak fluent English to an appropriate standard.
