Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom newscientist - Jobboard Full time
Job Summary

This exciting opportunity is funded by Thames Valley Cancer Alliance and involves collaborating with them to develop a breast pain pathway that can be implemented in the Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) to redirect breast pain patients away from 2-week wait clinics and onto more appropriate diagnostic pathways.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Association of Breast Surgery Clinical Practice & Standards Committee to develop and submit their breast pain pathway for assessment, as outlined on the ABS website under 'ASPIRE Breast Pain pathways.'

The ABS is keen to assess the strategies being used by units to address the significant proportion of symptomatic breast referrals to breast units across the UK, which are for patients with breast pain.

Main Duties of the Job

The Breast Unit in Oxford sees approximately 8,000 referrals per year, with over 600 newly diagnosed patients with breast cancer. The unit provides a full range of Oncoplastic breast surgery services in collaboration with the plastic surgery team, who provide a free-flap reconstruction service.

The fellow will work under the supervision of 7 consultants and will be required to participate in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, and quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, Health Authorities, and external accrediting bodies.

The post-holder will also be required to participate in teaching, training, and research activities, including programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors, and in clinical examinations.
