Croydon Governance Officer: Drive Democratic Services

We are seeking an experienced Democratic Services and Governance Officer to join our high-performing team in the London Borough of Croydon.

The role is part of a small team responsible for delivering an efficient democratic services function, ensuring these areas run smoothly and effectively support the organisation's goals.

To be successful in this position, you will need:

  • An in-depth understanding of the democratic process involved in local government
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to complete multiple tasks to a high standard
  • The relevant experience to support and represent the service at meetings of committees and sub-committees

Your key responsibilities will include drafting agendas and minutes of meetings, publishing them on time, and attending meetings as the representative of the service. You will also advise the chair on meeting procedures and ensure decisions are made correctly and compliant with local government regulations.

You will work closely with the Democratic Service Team, providing administrative support and facilitating the webcasting of council and committee meetings. Additionally, you will be responsible for monitoring and recording decisions to ensure compliance with local government laws and regulations.

This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with councillors, members, and other stakeholders. You will be confident, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

In return for your hard work and dedication, we offer a competitive salary range of £40,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on experience. This includes a comprehensive benefits package, including opportunities for professional development and career progression.
