Lead Landscape Officer - Placemaking

Job Summary:

Croydon Council is seeking an experienced and motivated landscape architect to lead the Placemaking Team within the Spatial Planning, Regeneration & Growth Zone Service. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality landscape and urban design projects, working closely with stakeholders, and contributing to the development of Croydon's spatial planning framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Placemaking Team, providing strategic direction and guidance on landscape and urban design projects.
  • Develop and manage project briefings for the Council's Executive Mayor and Cabinet Members, as well as the Director for Planning and Sustainable Regeneration.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including statutory consultees, project funders, and contractors.
  • Contribute to the development of Croydon's spatial planning framework, including strategies and policies for managing a Landscape Architectural Service.
  • Project manage design-led landscape projects, providing specialist landscape design advice and acting as Lead Landscape Designer on major public realm and urban greening projects.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Council, particularly with those in the Sustainable Communities, Regeneration and Economic Recovery department.

Requirements:

  • Practitioner experience in the development and delivery of high-quality landscape and urban design projects.
  • Thorough understanding of delivering high-quality projects through the planning system.
  • Strong team leadership and project management skills.
  • Experience in spatial planning, complex negotiations, stakeholder and community engagement, and working with local government.
  • Ability to work creatively and pragmatically, with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes.
