Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an Ecological Conservation Manager to join our team in the Wales & Western Region. The successful candidate will work in the Weather Resilience and Sustainable Development team, contributing to our National Environment and Sustainability Strategy.

The Ecologist will be responsible for producing habitat and vegetation management plans, conducting site visits and Ecology surveys, remitting works for habitat management, reviewing reports from external suppliers, and completing report writing.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Undertake and complete ecological field surveys, including protected species surveys and extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys.
  2. Collate, write up, and review survey results and mapping target notes to identify recommendations.
  3. Implement and embed recommendations to deliver continuous improvement.
  4. Conduct environmental impact assessments.
  5. Develop mitigation strategies using survey results and liaising with Environmental Specialists.
  6. Analyse and interpret data using specialist software programs.
  7. Provide ecological advice and guidance to site managers and engineers.
  8. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  9. Assist in producing environmental appraisal reports.

Key Requirements

  1. Strong knowledge of ecology and conservation principles.
  2. Relevant higher degree in a related field.
  3. Experience in land management or biodiversity planning.
  4. Ability to lead and manage teams.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
