About the Role: We are seeking a skilled freight and/or commodities market analyst to join our analytics team at Signal. As a dual role, this position requires passion for analysis, content creation, and storytelling to inform participants in the complex and volatile trading domains. Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate and promote weekly reports on commodity and freight markets, ensuring high-quality insights and actively engaging with relevant stakeholders.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and industry commentary, writing and promoting timely pieces that respond to industry news, trends, or client needs, and placing content in top industry media outlets.
  • Engage in hands-on data work and quality assurance, refining data to ensure it is client-ready and easily drives reports, and leading efforts to improve the data productization process.
  • Scout, collect, and integrate data from external sources to complement existing datasets and drive comprehensive analysis.
  • Provide consultative analytics and reporting to clients, representing Signal as a thought leader by speaking at relevant industry events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets globally to ensure broad coverage and placement of Signal's market insights.
  • Serve as an internal expert on commodities, providing feedback to product teams to shape features that meet client needs and market demands.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in economics or engineering from a top-tier university.
  • More than 2 years of experience as an analyst or consulting role.
  • Strong motivation to understand the market, its developments, and trends.
  • SQL knowledge and proficiency in working with large, disparate, and/or unstructured data sets.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of Python is a plus, but not required.
  • Detailed knowledge of data analysis methods and strong English language skills.
  • Prior experience in the commodities industry is a plus.
