Job Summary

The Ministry of Defence is seeking a highly skilled individual to fill the role of Safeguarding Lead at the Infantry Training Centre in Catterick Garrison. As a key member of the Welfare team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding across the organisation.

In this role, you will assume a Higher Executive Officer position and work closely with senior stakeholders to deliver Safeguarding Policy and Disclosure and Barring Service clearance casework. You will represent the Infantry Training Centre at relevant meetings and ensure that all personnel, both military and civilian, have the necessary clearance for their roles.

We are looking for an exceptional individual who is not only a team player but also possesses the ability to deliver Safeguarding responsibilities presentations and training on all induction training, and when required, within the Unit. This role requires adept multitasking and adaptability, with the position offering policy-led decision-making while working in a close-knit welfare environment.

Key Responsibilities

As the dedicated Safeguarding Lead, you will be responsible for:
  • Representing the Infantry Training Centre at relevant meetings and ensuring that all personnel have the necessary clearance for their roles.
  • Delivering Safeguarding responsibilities presentations and training on all induction training, and when required, within the Unit.
  • Assuming a Higher Executive Officer position and working closely with senior stakeholders to deliver Safeguarding Policy and Disclosure and Barring Service clearance casework.
  • Leading on Infantry Training Centre Safeguarding Policy and ensuring that all personnel, both military and civilian, have the necessary clearance for their roles.

Person Specification

For this role, we are looking for an individual who possesses the following skills and experience:
  • Enhanced DBS check as part of the on-boarding process.
  • A designated Safeguarding or Local Authority Designated Officer qualifications.
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead qualification and previous experience of working in a Safeguarding Lead role.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills due to regular interaction at senior levels.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Proficiency in IT tools, including Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to showcase initiative by proactively identifying emerging issues and finding solutions.
  • Awareness of mental health issues.
  • Awareness of Local Authority Designated Officer referral process.

Working Arrangements

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estates capacity. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another MOD workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
