Job Summary

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicine to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will provide a comprehensive and high-quality Respiratory and General Medicine service.

Main Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the post include:

  • Active participation in the management and development of the specialty and the introduction of new services.
  • Contribution to the General Medicine educational programme, including weekly departmental meetings and teaching.
  • Join clinical supervision of STs in Respiratory Medicine.
  • Participation in Multidisciplinary Team Meetings, both specialty and ward based.
  • Participation in medical audit and review of performance for the Service against the National Targets for Lung Cancer.
  • Participation in the Trust consultant appraisal process.
  • Achievement of the requirements for Continuing Professional Development as laid down by the Royal College of Physicians.

About the Role

The Department of Respiratory Medicine at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is a forward-thinking and friendly district general hospital with a cohesive respiratory department that already provides a wide range of core respiratory services.

This is a full-time post with 10 PA allocation, with the option for an additional 1 PAs if the candidate wishes to join the NIV on call rota. It is subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of the new consultant contract (2003).

Requirements

Applicants must be on the Specialist Register of the GMC and hold a licence to practice, or be eligible for inclusion on the register within six months of the interview date.

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop's Stortford, and St Margaret's Hospital in Epping.

We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop's Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.
