About the Role

This is an analytic leadership position that is responsible for providing actuarial support to the Marine and Aviation business unit at SPE Travelers Management, LTD.

Key Responsibilities
  • Case pricing of individual large risks based on the insured's own historical experience.
  • Business planning, including estimation of loss ratio for each class of business, building profit and loss accounts, and proposing and assessing underwriting actions.
  • Pricing models, including taking ownership of exposure-based pricing models and serving as a point of contact for underwriters.
  • Portfolio management, including segmenting books of business to identify profitable versus unprofitable risks and monitoring rate and retention by segment.
  • Using statistical software such as R and Python to manipulate and analyze claims data.
  • Working with underwriters to gain their confidence and ensure they act on actuarial insights.
  • Promoting efficiencies in systems and processes, balancing additional effort against incremental lift gained from work.
  • Providing direction and reviewing others' analytical work.
  • Translating business requests into analytical solutions.
  • Providing support as necessary for initiatives within Europe or across the Enterprise.
Strategic Initiatives
  • Assessing, prioritizing, influencing, and communicating strategic initiative options to senior leaders.
  • Demonstrating effective execution and completion of assigned strategic initiatives and projects.
  • Regularly generating process improvements and exploring opportunities for innovation.
  • Leading assigned unit strategic initiatives and participating in Europe or Enterprise initiatives.
Talent Development
  • Acquiring, retaining, and developing talent for the assigned unit.
  • Executing and communicating talent development processes, including performance and personal development goals.
  • Mentoring less experienced talent within Europe or across the Enterprise.
  • Supporting various training and skill development initiatives across Segment, Europe, and the Enterprise.
  • Providing support for recruiting efforts and candidate talent assessment efforts.
Requirements
  • University degree in a STEM-related field (2:1 or above).
  • Programming skills in R/Python or similar.
  • Preferably qualified actuary.
  • Strong understanding of insurance products and industry.
  • Experience in the London market.
  • Demonstrated ability in actuarial and quantitative analysis and statistical concepts.
  • Management experience (direct or indirect).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to present and translate complex information in relevant business terms.
