Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Handling Expert to support our clients in improving the capability, reliability and availability of their critical assets.

This role is part of our continued investment in infrastructure on the Devonport site, supporting the MoD's submarine and warship programmes.

  • Drafting technical design documentation, including requirements, design reports, presentations and calculations.
  • Overseeing and supporting the generation of 3D models, 2D CAD drawings and BOMs.
  • Drafting technical queries and change records.
  • Updating or providing information to support updating existing documents, such as the DSR, OMM, Job Plans and Inspection methods.
  • Overseeing the conversion of existing design records into 3D models.
  • Maintaining and updating project registers of technical queries, change requests, design review requests and design review actions.
  • Determining durations for design tasks to support the principal engineer and project manager in planning activities.

Requirements

To succeed as a Mechanical Handling Expert, you will have experience in a similar position and possess the following skills:

  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge of engineering works, mechanical handling, mechanical or electrical systems/services.
  • Experience of mechanical design, including new or modification to structures and systems, concept, detail design, implementation and commissioning.
  • A proven track record in completing work packages in a highly regulated environment, preferably in the nuclear civil or defence industries.
  • The ability to follow a nuclear safety-led engineering process and maintain accurate records and document/drawing revision control.
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor or similar software to oversee and support production of models and drawings of mechanical components with electrical harnesses.
  • Experience in using MathCAD to draft technical calculations and substantiation.
  • Demonstrable communication skills and the ability to host and participate in design meetings across Microsoft Teams while working remotely and on-site.
  • Experience in using Word, Excel, OneNote, SharePoint, Autodesk Vault and Navisworks.

Benefits

This is a 12-month contract role, offering hybrid working arrangements, typically two days a month in Plymouth. You must be a British national and able to provide proof of residency in the UK for at least five years.

Salary: £72,000 per annum
