Strategic Advisor to the Chief Delivery Officer

The National Delivery and Vaccinations and Screening Directorates in NHS England are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Chief of Staff. This pivotal position will require the postholder to lead a team in supporting the Chief Delivery Officer and National Director for Vaccinations and Screening, as well as their Senior Leadership Team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating activity across the directorate and organisation, responding to requests from HM Government and Ministers, and delivering successful outcomes in challenging contexts. They will also be expected to provide strategic advice to the Chief Delivery Officer and their senior leadership teams.

The ideal candidate will have a detailed understanding of legislative and regulatory developments, including the Darzi review and the 10-year plan. They will be able to independently horizon scan and lead teams to solve challenging problems on behalf of the national executive director.

This role will also involve managing and representing the organisation in sensitive and political situations, delivering difficult messages to senior audiences. The NHS England board has set out the top-level purpose for the new organisation, which will inform the detailed design work.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

NHS England hold a Sponsor Licence, which means that we may be able to sponsor the successful candidate providing the Home Office requirements are met.
