Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time
About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Polymer Synthesis Researcher to join our team in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on sustainable block polymer thermoplastics and elastomers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, synthesis, and characterisation of new block polymers using controlled heterocycle ring-opening polymerisations and epoxide/carbon dioxide/anhydride ring-opening copolymerisation
  • Evaluate structure-property relationships influenced by various factors including polymer molar mass, architecture, and block composition
  • Collaborate with our diverse and multi-disciplinary research team to develop renewably sourced and recyclable block polymers with high-performance characteristics

This role offers a unique chance to work closely with Professor Charlotte Williams and integrate with the Sustainable Chemicals and Materials Manufacturing Hub (SCHEMA). We will support your career development and provide opportunities for professional growth and training.

Requirements:
  • PhD in Polymerisation Catalysis, Polymer Chemistry or a related area (or close to completion)
  • Experience in polymer synthesis, preferably relevant to oxygenated polymers (polyesters/carbonates) and anaerobic techniques
  • Strong project management skills, ability to coordinate multiple aspects of work and meet deadlines

As a valued member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work broadly alongside academic and industrial partners within the SCHEMA Hub. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment and encourage applications from candidates who are from under-represented groups.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this position is estimated to be around £40,000-£60,000 per annum, depending on experience. You will also receive a comprehensive benefits package, including access to a range of employee discounts, pension scheme, and generous annual leave.
