The Role

We're seeking a Research and Development Specialist to join our state-of-the-art automated laboratory focused on chemical synthesis, compound management, and biology. You'll be responsible for developing and operating analytical and purification tools, supporting our fully automated synthesis capability and the needs of our synthetic chemistry team.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Implement new technology to support automated analytical and purification workflows.
  • Collaborate with ADME experts to measure physicochemical parameters such as Chrom logD and EPSA.
  • Deliver rapid achiral and chiral purification processes for both automated and conventional synthesis workflows.
  • Support automated QC and quantitation workflows using LC-MS and Charged Aerosol Detection.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to implement customised software or AI solutions for data manipulation and exploitation.
  • Stay up-to-date with world-class scientists and learn from their expertise to inform your work and broaden your knowledge.

Requirements

Essential Skills:

  • BSc qualification in Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Science, with at least 6 months industrial or academic experience in Separation Science.
  • Proficiency in analytical LC-MS and/or SFC-MS, with a basic understanding of chirality and isomer separation strategies within drug discovery. Proficiency in operating mass and/or UV guided purification systems.
  • Able to apply separation science to solve complex problems and troubleshoot LC-MS instruments.
  • Innovation mindset with an open-minded attitude to drug discovery technologies and enthusiasm to challenge the status quo.
  • Ability to work in high-performing, cross-functional teams with a collaborative mindset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with regular interactions with various teams and presentation of data to colleagues.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with batch/plate analysis and automating data processing workflows for QC applications. Experience with alternative detection techniques for compound quantification.
  • Experience with physicochemical parameter measurement using HPLC and SFC methodologies.

Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience.
