Critical Care Assistant Professional

Job Summary
This role involves working within the Critical Care unit as part of an interdisciplinary team, providing basic and advanced assistance to trained personnel as delegated by the Registered Nurse on a shift basis.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in patient admissions and orientation processes, providing written information as available.
- Assist patients with personal hygiene, toilet, and protection needs, as requested.
- Liaise with the unit's dietician to meet patients' nutritional needs, ensuring accurate ordering of feeds.
- Monitor patients for emotional and physical changes, reporting concerns to the Registered Nurse and offering solutions when possible.
- Encourage patients towards independence, using initiative and providing guidance when necessary.
- Contribute to maintaining a restful critical care environment.
- Familiarize yourself with correct manual handling procedures and available aids.
- Share ideas to uphold the Unit's agreed values, aims, and objectives.
Advanced Duties (as delegated by the Registered Nurse)
- Perform venipuncture as required.
- Collect blood samples via arterial lines and analyze arterial blood gas results using the blood gas analyzer.
- Record basic vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, and urine output.
- Perform ECGs.
- Carry out dressings for tracheostomies, invasive lines, and wounds alongside the Registered Nurse.
- Provide stoma care.
- Prepare bed areas for admission and set up essential equipment.
- Remove arterial lines.
