We are seeking an experienced Care Worker - Physical Health Specialist to join our team in Braintree, Essex. As a key member of our Physical Health Team, you will work alongside GPs and other healthcare professionals to improve the physical health and wellbeing of people with severe mental illness.

About the Role

In this role, you will contribute to assessments of both physical and mental health needs, focusing on improving the physical health of people with severe mental illness. You will work with other agencies to deliver a systems approach to ensuring service users' physical health and wellbeing needs are met.

You will participate in physiological assessments of service users with severe mental illness, taking and recording physical health checks, including blood pressure, pulse, weight, and BMI. You will support the implementation of new digital technology used for assessing physical health needs and have a good understanding of clinical guidelines for physical health monitoring.

You will assess patients holistically, considering lifestyles, exercise, activities, mental health, nutrition, smoking, alcohol, drug use, and frailty, providing advice on healthy lifestyles and signposting service users to other services. You will work alongside other professionals within community mental health teams and wider mental health and physical health services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside other professionals within community mental health teams and wider mental health and physical health services.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • NVQ/Mental Health Certificate Level 2 or completion of the Care Certificate on appointment.
  • Commitment to Continuing Personal Development.
  • Educated to GCE/GCSE or equivalent (Maths and English).
  • Venepuncture training.

A keenness to make a positive contribution to improving the quality of life for people with mental health problems, as well as empathy, compassion, and patience, is essential for this role. You should also be able to create innovative solutions to help empower service users and form positive therapeutic relationships with them.
