Chair - Scottish Rail Holdings Position

The Chair of Scottish Rail Holdings will provide strategic leadership and direction to the Board, ensuring effective governance and oversight of the organization. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of leadership and governance experience, with a deep understanding of the rail sector and its challenges.
Key Responsibilities- Provide overall leadership and direction to the Board, ensuring effective governance and oversight of Scottish Rail Holdings.
- Ensure the Board delivers against the objectives of Scottish Ministers, including the provision of high-quality passenger train services.
- Lead the relationship with the Scottish Ministers and the Scottish Parliament on matters relating to Scottish Rail Holdings and its subsidiaries.
- Ensure the Board operates compliantly with Scottish Government protocols, including Scottish Government "On-Board" guidance.
- Provide constructive challenge to ensure business decisions are made in a robust and sustainable manner.
- Previous experience of chairing a board or equivalent overseeing management or leadership role.
- Previous board experience ideally in a large organization with significant delivery responsibilities.
- Strong leadership and governance skills, with a deep understanding of the rail sector and its challenges.
- Ability to interpret and analyze complex financial information and options to underpin sound decisions.
- Supports the highest standards of value for money, internal controls, and public sector governance as outlined in the Scottish Public Finance Manual.
The appointment is for up to 3 years, with a day rate of £498 for a time commitment of 96 days per calendar year. The role holder will also be entitled to reasonable expenses, including travel and subsistence costs, childcare or carer expenses, and disability-related reasonable adjustments.
