Job Title: Research Scientist in Animal Welfare

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist in Animal Welfare to join our team at UK Research and Innovation. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a new dataset of primate welfare and behaviour measures that can be shared with other researchers.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop a systematic review of macaque behaviour and welfare measures to select the best measures to collect for the new dataset
  • Collect and annotate video data to prepare the new dataset for sharing with other researchers
  • Collaborate with primate centres and researchers to develop a robust ethogram for macaque behaviour
  • Present research findings and write journal articles to disseminate the results
Requirements:
  • PhD in an animal behaviour-related and/or animal welfare-related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in working with animals and collecting animal behaviour data
  • Expertise in data analysis using programming software (R, Python, or MATLAB)
Working Relationships:

The post-holder will report to the Head of Scientific Programmes and will be based in the science team at the Centre for Macaques.

Additional Information:

The post-holder will be required to have the appropriate level of security screening/vetting required for the role. UKRI reserves the right to run or re-run security clearance as required during the course of employment.
