Job Title: Researcher in Animal Welfare

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Researcher in Animal Welfare to join our team at the UK Research and Innovation Centre for Macaques. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a new dataset of primate welfare and behaviour measures, collecting and annotating video data, and collaborating with other researchers to develop a robust ethogram for macaque behaviour.

About the Role:
  • Develop and implement a systematic review of macaque behaviour and welfare measures
  • Collect and annotate video data using programming software (R, Python, or MATLAB)
  • Collaborate with other researchers to develop a robust ethogram for macaque behaviour
  • Present research findings and write journal articles
  • Visit conferences and other primate centres
Requirements:
  • PhD in an animal behaviour-related and/or animal welfare-related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in working with animals and collecting animal behaviour data
  • Expertise in data analysis using programming software (R, Python, or MATLAB)
  • Skills in paper-writing to disseminate research data and ideas
  • Presentation skills in delivering talks and posters
Working Relationships:

The post-holder will report to the Head of Scientific Programmes and will be based in the science team at the CFM. The post-holder will also collaborate with other researchers, veterinary staff, and primate centres.
