About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Animal Care Specialist to join our team at the UK Health Security Agency. As an Animal Care Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of our non-human primates, while also contributing to the advancement of scientific research and public health.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily husbandry and health checks on non-human primates, ensuring the highest standards of animal care and welfare.
- Maintain and promote high-quality care and enrichment for the animals, including providing a stimulating and safe environment.
- Ensure compliance with Home Office standards for both animals and facilities, adhering to strict protocols and guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with researchers, veterinarians, and other animal care staff to ensure seamless operations and achieve shared goals.
- Engage in physically demanding tasks requiring significant manual dexterity, while prioritizing animal safety and well-being.
Requirements
- Education to NVQ 2 level in a relevant subject or equivalent level of qualification or significant equivalent previous proven experience.
- Ability to demonstrate reliability and work effectively as part of a team.
- Capacity to keep detailed and accurate records, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of the importance of continually reviewing processes to improve animal welfare through refinement of husbandry and procedural techniques.
- Ability to undergo full UK Security Clearance.
- Understanding of why animals are used for research purposes and the importance of their care and welfare.
Desirable Criteria
- National Certificate in Animal Technology.
- Experience working in a GLP environment.
