Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer Materials Technology - Metallurgy to join our team. As a key member of our Materials Technology team, you will be responsible for providing authoritative metallurgical advice and guidance to various functions, including Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery of metallurgical advice and guidance to all functions, particularly Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain, on emergent issues arising during submarine build, commissioning, and in-service.
  • Conduct reviews of supplier technical and special processes related to metallurgy, corrosion prevention, and welding engineering.
  • Conduct and report on metallurgical investigations and research, including the preparation of samples, safe and correct use of laboratory and workshop equipment, conduct of analysis, and preparation of test results and technical reports.
  • Contribute to the technical evaluation of new materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Support weld engineers in the assessment of pipe welds, structural welds, and cladding, including preparation and mechanical testing of samples.
  • Contribute to the review and maintenance of relevant Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Operating Procedures, and Risk Assessments.
Requirements
  • Qualified to degree level (BEng/BSc) in metallurgy or materials science.
  • Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy.
  • Knowledge of metal forming and processing.
  • Knowledge of corrosion mechanisms and prevention.
  • Experience of working within a team of metallurgists and/or welding engineers.
  • Experience in the development and maintenance of metallurgical related workmanship Standards and Process Instructions.
  • Experience in conducting research and technical investigations.

The Materials Technology team consists of various technical levels, and as a Senior Engineer, you will be joining a team that comprises over 60 specialists of Metallurgical, Polymer, Welding, and materials backgrounds.
