SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary)

Location: South Shields

Salary: £75-110 per day

Job Type: Full-time

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team at a welcoming primary school in South Shields. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ensuring a positive learning environment for all students.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Assist the class teacher with daily classroom activities and lesson delivery.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help students develop coping strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and SENCo to adapt learning materials.
  • Monitor and report on pupil progress and well-being.
  • Promote inclusion and ensure all pupils have equal access to learning.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment for all students.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH or additional needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and a calm approach to challenging behaviour.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
  • Relevant qualifications (desirable but not essential).
