Clinical Research Fellow Opportunity in Advanced Therapy and Medical Products

University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Clinical Research Fellow to join our team in the field of Advanced Therapy and Medical Products.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing medical support and cover to adult and paediatric studies occurring in the CRF, bone marrow transplant unit, and at the Wessex Research Hubs in Southampton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, and Weymouth. The fellow will also be expected to engage in the development and conduct of studies, including the submission and maintenance of regulatory documents, recruitment of subjects, and providing medical cover.

The post holder will work closely with the Directors and investigators to ensure that all studies are conducted to Good Clinical Practice. The fellow will also be expected to contribute to an on-call study phone rota and work flexible hours depending on the study and visit requirements.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years post-registration general/acute (Internal) medicine experience and MRCP or equivalent. They will also be keen to learn more about clinical research and interested in further research training (MD/PhD). The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate behaviours that meet the Trust Values: Patients First, Always Improving, Working Together.

Person Specification
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Postgraduate - MRCP or equivalent
  • Basic - BSc (or other intercalated degree) other degrees/qualifications
  • Higher Degree
Previous or Relevant Experience
  • Minimum of two years post-registration General/Acute (Internal) Medicine/Paediatric experience
  • Successful completion of a Foundation Programme and of Core Medical Training
  • Additional experience or demonstrated interest in a) haematology/oncology and/or, ICU/anaesthetics or b) ST3 level general medical experience or c) Some research experience
Aptitudes and Skills
  • Proven ability to manage acute medical/paediatric emergencies
  • Demonstrate the ability to be calm, compassionate, and able to respond efficiently to various circumstances, which may change rapidly
  • Proven competence in venous sampling and cannulation
  • Commitment to the specialty of research choice
