The Employee Relations Specialist will provide expert HR advice and support to employees and managers, serving as the primary point of contact for all general HR inquiries.
This role requires the ability to identify, action, and follow up on complex queries, utilizing expertise, knowledge, and analysis to resolve problems and escalate to senior HR advisors when necessary.
The successful candidate will have autonomy to manage their time and diary commitments, leading the management of complex sickness-related absence cases for the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Managing Sickness Reviews: Arrange and attend sickness review meetings, advise and support line managers on short-term and long-term absence, and hold termination meetings as needed.
- Supporting HR Cases: Manage cases related to fixed-term contracts, professional registrations, and flexible working requests from all staff groups across the organization.
- Communicating Complex Information: Communicate complex information and processes, including redeployment, ill health retirement, and procedure for stage 3 sickness hearings, to managers and employees.
- Interpreting Policies: Interpret and advise managers on organization policies to ensure compliance, while offering general HR advice to all organization staff.
- Flexible Working Applications: Take a leading HR role on flexible working applications and appeals, supporting managers to review the impacts on both the individual and the service.
- Professional Registration: Take a leading role on cases where an individual's professional registration has expired and not been renewed, preventing them from legally working in their role.
- Collation of Packs: Produce and support the process of collating packs for formal sickness and flexible working hearings, distributing them to the panel, management, and staff in a timely manner.
- Employee Relations Meetings: Support with taking and minutes of formal employee relations meetings and hearings, including sickness, disciplinary, grievance, and capability cases.
- Case Management Systems: Update the ESR case management systems and trackers to ensure that ER cases are accessible and up-to-date for accurate reporting.
- General HR Advice: Provide general advice to managers and staff on Agenda for Change terms and conditions of service and organization employment policies and procedures, including pay, annual leave entitlement, family leave, notice periods, flexible working options, and special leave.
- Data Analysis: Run reports and analyze complex and sensitive data relating to individual employment, identifying trends and patterns to inform potential interventions and improvements.
- Education: Educated to GCSE level, including Maths and English.
- Professional Experience: NVQ Level 5 or equivalent professional experience.
- CIPD Qualification: CIPD Level 5 or working towards.
- Office Administration: Experienced in office administration, including the production of confidential, official, and legal documents or processes related to employment.
- Communication Skills: Able to take and transcribe notes/minutes of formal meetings, handle difficult or sensitive situations, and communicate complex information effectively.
- HR Systems: Experienced in the use of HR or payroll systems.
- MS Office: Experienced in MS Office applications to at least an intermediate level.
- Enquiry Handling: Able to deal with routine and complex enquiries.
- HR Support: Experienced in supporting HR cases or managing queries in a highly complex, unionized organization.
- Attention to Detail: Able to check complex documents and have good attention to detail.
- Teamwork: Motivated and enthusiastic team player.
- Initiative: Able to act on own initiative.
- Communication: Excellent communicator.
- Adaptability: Adaptable and flexible approach to work.
