About the Role

GALSON Sciences Limited is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Scientific Consultant to join our team. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality research projects in nuclear decommissioning, radioactive waste management, and disposal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and Report Writing: Conduct in-depth research and write high-quality reports on geological disposal of radioactive waste.
  • Presentations and Workshops: Present research findings to clients and at conferences, and facilitate technical workshops and discussions.
  • Business Development: Identify and pursue business opportunities in your areas of expertise.
  • Project Management: Manage projects in accordance with company standards and guidelines.
  • Team Leadership: Lead a small team of consultants and provide guidance and support.
  • Operational Efficiency: Ensure activities in your business area are conducted in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: PhD or MSc in quantitative earth sciences, applied mathematics, physics, chemistry, or engineering, or a BSc with proven radioactive waste management experience.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to deliver high-quality proposals and technical work with excellent attention to detail, within tight deadlines.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent time management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Experience: Project and contract management experience, as well as business development in your areas of expertise.
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Nuclear Industry Experience: Experience in the nuclear industry, particularly in radioactive waste treatment, disposal, options assessment, nuclear safety, and related fields.
  • Modelling Skills: Modelling skills, particularly with respect to site characterization, groundwater flow, gas transfer, and/or contaminant transport in geological media.
  • Coding Skills: Coding skills, such as Python or C++.
  • Staff Well-being: Experience in staff well-being, such as line management or mentoring.
