The position of Senior Therapist for Prison Mental Health Services at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust offers a unique opportunity to provide access to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) services to men detained in prison who are identified as being at risk of suicide.

A key responsibility of the post holder will be to deliver a course of up to 20 sessions of CBT, with sessions lasting up to one hour on a once or twice weekly basis. This therapy is based on a detailed manual, and the successful candidate will receive training prior to treating patients in the trial and close supervision during the trial.

The study is running in four prisons across the North West of England, and the post holder will be required to work across two prisons in Yorkshire. Travel to these sites and to the University of Manchester for meetings, training, and supervision will be necessary.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Liaise with various sectors of care involved with participants on their caseload.
  • Provide highly specialist psychological assessment and therapy within the context of the clinical trial.
  • Offer advice and consultation on patient care to non-psychologist colleagues and other carers and workers where appropriate.
  • Work autonomously within professional guidelines and the team's policies and procedures.
  • Utilize research skills for audit, policy, and research within the area served by the teams/service.
  • Contribute to the provision of research team services and fulfillment of research team priorities and objectives.
  • Support the Trust's social inclusion agenda.

The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering high-quality therapeutic services and contributing to process evaluation.

Salary: £43,041 - £58,217 per annum, depending on experience
