Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Surgical Nurse Specialist to join our dynamic Pre-Operative Assessment Team at Whittington Health NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse to expand their surgical nursing skills and contribute to the development and implementation of the pre-operative assessment service.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out and demonstrating extended nursing procedures as per Best Practice Guidelines and protocols.
  • Ensuring a complete nursing and anaesthetic assessment is performed using verbal and physical examination skills, documenting findings.
  • Reviewing patients online, via telephone, and face-to-face, depending on clinical needs.
  • Organising referrals to the relevant multidisciplinary team members, such as anaesthetists, surgeons, and GPs, where patients are deemed unfit for surgery.
  • Integrating discharge planning into the pre-operative assessment process.
  • Performing and maintaining practical skills necessary for patient assessment, including venepuncture and ECG.

Operational Management
