Next-Generation Nuclear Power Design Opportunity

At Thomas Thor, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Nuclear Engineer to join our team in Bristol. As a global leader in designing safe and secure nuclear power, we are building a new team to advance our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development of the Structural chapter of the Safety Case for submission to the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) for use in the Generic Design Assessment (GDA). This critical element is essential for the commercial deployment of SMR-300s worldwide.

You will be working on analysing metallic, reinforced concrete, and soil-subgrade supported structures, using various methods and software to perform the analyses. Your tasks will include:

  • Executing and documenting analyses for building and support structures
  • Reviewing available concept designs and developing them into mature designs through critical thinking, literature research, and collaboration with team members from other disciplines and vendors
  • Supporting the development of engineering and licensing requirements and documentation for nuclear structures, systems, and components

Key requirements for this role include:

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical/Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Industrial experience in stress analysis codes such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, and STAAD
  • Prior nuclear industry experience
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
