As a dedicated specialist support staff member at GSL Education, you will be working in a SEN school in Dorchester to provide emotional support to students with SEMH needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with students, enhancing their self-esteem and encouraging social interactions.
  • Providing empathetic support to students, helping them manage emotions and develop coping strategies.
  • Collaborating with teachers and SENCO to create a positive learning environment, implementing effective behaviour management strategies.
  • Offering tailored support to students both in and out of the classroom, ensuring they can access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.

You will also work closely with educational psychologists, social workers, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for students with SEMH needs. Tracking and reporting on student progress, contributing to reviews and assessments to support their educational and personal development is an important part of this role.

**Qualifications and Requirements:**

  • A minimum of experience working with students with SEMH needs in an educational or similar setting.
  • An understanding of SEMH issues and effective strategies for supporting students.
  • Patience, resilience, and a calm demeanor to manage challenging situations sensitively.
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues effectively.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, as well as the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing positively to the school community.
