Research Scientist in Surgical Vision and AI

Imperial College London is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join its Hamlyn Centre, a world-leading institution dedicated to developing innovative imaging, sensing, and robotics technologies for healthcare. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing a novel surgical platform for surgical navigation and tissue characterisation during neurosurgery.
The project focuses on the integration of computer vision and AI for intraoperative surgical navigation and Augmented Reality visualisation, machine learning for multimodal tissue characterisation, and functional intraoperative tissue assessment. The post holder will work closely with a large team of engineers, scientists, and clinicians to develop a platform that integrates signals from multiple imaging modalities, including video, probe-based Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy, and Multispectral Imaging.
Key responsibilities include the development of advanced machine learning methodologies for the analysis of multimodal data and the integration of these techniques with computer vision and AI. A PhD (or equivalent) in Visual Computing, Machine Learning, AI, or a related field is required. Prior experience in medical applications and medical data processing is an advantage.
The successful candidate will benefit from a sector-leading salary and remuneration package, including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes.
