Electrical Test Engineer Role Overview

At BSI, we're seeking an experienced Electrical Test Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our operations, you'll play a crucial role in certifying the safety of products for global consumers.

Our Testing Laboratories

BSI has over 50 years of testing excellence, with two UKAS-accredited laboratory operations in the UK. Our purpose-built Hemel Hempstead facility is our centre of excellence, providing testing across various products, including PPE, IoT Security, and Automotive. Our Loughborough testing facility is based within Loughborough University, offering bespoke testing capabilities across Electrical & Electronics, Mechanical, and Energy.

Responsibilities

  • Create test set-ups and rigs to simulate normal use and conditions of products.
  • Perform initial calibration checks on testing equipment and record results in accordance with ISO standards.
  • Interpret and navigate standards to lead tests, obtain results, and generate verdicts.
  • Support the team in scoping out new efficiencies within testing and generate ideas for future CAPEX.
  • Contribute to a safe working environment by identifying areas of improvement and writing and reviewing risk assessments.

Requirements

  • Previous background and education in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
  • Sound knowledge and awareness of electrical principles and measurements.
  • Experience with medical electrical equipment standards - IEC/EN 60601.
  • Ability to use and interpret testing equipment, including load banks, multimeters, flash testers, and earth bond testers.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to set up multiple test rigs and coordinate projects concurrently.
  • Strong technical data interpretation and reporting skills, with the ability to write test reports using MS Word and Excel.
