Scientific Liaison Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Industrial Liaison Scientist to join our team at Diamond Light Source. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in supporting industrial clients with their macromolecular crystallography projects.
This is an exciting opportunity to apply your life science laboratory experience and contribute to the success of our clients. You will be responsible for providing a full scientific consultancy service, including fragment screening, to industrial users of Diamond. Your expertise will be invaluable in designing, planning, and ensuring the successful implementation of experiments to address industrial research problems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide scientific consultancy services to industrial users of Diamond in the area of macromolecular crystallography, including fragment screening.
- Take responsibility for sample management, data collection, and reporting to clients for full-service projects.
- Assist in the management of the Soaking Laboratory, ensuring that the laboratory is well-organized and equipped to function as a user facility.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of fragment libraries, including quality control and inventory management.
- Support the operation of beamlines for users, including carrying out a user support role via the local contact system.
- Assist in the marketing of our services by making presentations at conferences and participating in company visits.
About You
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced laboratory scientist with a strong background in macromolecular crystallography. You will have a degree in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or Structural Biology, and a track record of advanced laboratory work and organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience working in a commercial environment.
- Knowledge of compound management and crystal handling.
- Experience with synchrotrons and X-ray beamlines.
- Programming skills, particularly in Python and Java.
