Job Title: Food Production Shift Manager
Job Summary:
GBR Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Food Production Shift Manager to join a leading chilled food manufacturing business. As a key member of the production team, you will be responsible for managing a team of 6 direct reports and approximately 50-100 indirect food production operatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of the production team, ensuring full compliance with daily and weekly production plans, delivering a quality food product range on-time-in-full (OTIF) and meeting customer deadlines to a costed standard.
- Deliver world-class manufacturing standards through self-development and team development, as well as involvement in process improvements.
- Ensure staffing numbers are set at an optimum level to achieve output levels to the standards required by customers.
- Maintain excellent Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards at all times, delivering quality standards required by customers and external audits.
- Ensure the smooth running of the core business by liaising with department leaders to coordinate stock, production, picking, and dispatch.
- Manage, control, and achieve set Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including plan attainment, cost of quality, labor cost, training, skills gap, recruitment/retention, downtime, and waste.
- Take the lead on all things food safety.
- Proactively and reactively address day-to-day problems to ensure daily production plans are met.
- Focus on Supply Chain/ bottleneck management and team management to ensure throughputs are successfully maintained at target levels.
- Proactively suggest process improvements and Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives to improve throughputs and efficiency.
- Be a real people motivator, manager, trainer, and developer of production team workers, maximizing their potential and future management opportunities.
- Be a highly positive contributor in all production meetings.
- Carry out Return to Work (RTW) investigations, and disciplinaries when needed.
- Cross-train staff to be able to multi-task and carry out varying duties.
- Support New Product Development (NPD) during the development of new products and New Product Introduction (NPI).
Requirements:
- Food production/processing experience at Shift Manager, FLM, Area Manager, Section Manager, Production Manager, or Factory Manager level.
- Chilled food sector experience.
- Passionate mentor, coach, and motivator of others.
- Strong in GMP, BRC audits, retailer codes, H&S, HACCP, SIC, CI, LEAN, Zero Waste, and Quality.
- Able to lead teams of 5+ direct reports and approximately 50-100 indirect operatives.
Commutable Locations:
Middlesborough, Billingham, Stockton on Tees, Thornaby, Hartlepool, Redcar, Sedgefield, Peterlee, Northallerton, Darlington, and Newton Aycliffe.
