About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist to join our team at London North West Healthcare NHS Trust. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, leading clinical teams, and contributing to the development of our services.

Main Responsibilities

As a Consultant Gastroenterologist, you will be expected to:

  • Provide specialist care to patients with gastrointestinal disorders, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
  • Lead clinical teams and contribute to the development of our services, including the design and implementation of new clinical pathways and protocols.
  • Participate in the education and training of junior medical staff, including medical students and junior doctors.
  • Contribute to the development of our research program, including the design and implementation of studies and the publication of research findings.
  • Participate in the governance of our department, including the development of policies and procedures and the management of budgets.

Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate who has:

  • MRCP or equivalent qualification.
  • Certification of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in Gastroenterology.
  • Accreditation in general internal medicine and gastroenterology.
  • Excellent clinical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Leadership qualities and ability to manage and motivate teams.
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.

Desirable Criteria

We would also like to hear from candidates who have:

  • NHS experience within the last 3 years.
  • Interest in the development of out-patient management of liver disease.
  • General ERCP skills and/or delivery.
  • Experience in service redesign.
  • Evidence of management training.
  • An understanding of techniques to improve efficiency and productivity of clinic processes.
  • Evidence of active research with either record of winning grants or publishing peer-reviewed articles as well as chapters and papers.
  • Evidence of giving successful presentations.
