Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity is available for dedicated professionals to join our esteemed team as Consultant Anaesthetists. This role involves working across multiple locations within the healthcare system, contributing to the delivery of high-quality anaesthetic services.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

  • Engage in the provision of a safe, effective, and efficient anaesthetic service, ensuring the smooth operation of the Anaesthetic Department.
  • Participate in the anaesthetic consultant on-call rota, demonstrating flexibility in fixed commitments.
  • Be prepared to operate across various sites, with on-call duties assigned to one specific location while elective theatre sessions may occur at different sites as necessary.
  • Assist in the delivery of Critical Care services when required.

Management and Education:

  • Support the professional supervision, management, and training of anaesthetic trainees.
  • Familiarize yourself with the Royal College of Anaesthetists curriculum for Junior Doctor training, contributing to their educational needs through tutorials and supervision.
  • Organize and lead teaching sessions for both undergraduate students and postgraduate medical staff, as well as other healthcare professionals.

Clinical Governance:

  • Actively participate in Clinical Governance initiatives, including incident reporting, serious incident investigations, and effective complaint management.
  • Engage in the Clinical Audit programme within the department.
  • Ensure compliance with the Trust's Clinical Governance processes as outlined by leadership.
  • Maintain high standards of data quality and adhere to policies for accurate recording of departmental activities.

Professional Development:

  • Engage in continuing professional development at both local and national levels.
  • Implement findings from audits and research into clinical practice.
  • Participate in annual appraisals in accordance with Trust policy and fulfill revalidation requirements.
  • Exhibit a willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at various levels.

Policy and Planning:

  • Contribute to the formulation of clinical and organizational protocols.
  • Review and enhance policies for clinical practice and effectiveness.
  • Support the Trust's mission to provide exemplary patient care.
  • Participate in all aspects of the Directorate and Hospital's operations, including attendance at relevant meetings and representation on committees as needed.
  • Monitor performance indicators in collaboration with management and implement necessary actions.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent.
  • Full and Specialist registration for Anaesthesia with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to the requirements for obtaining CCT in Anaesthesia.
  • Ability to independently manage clinical care for adult, maternity, and paediatric patients.

Desirable:

  • Higher degree or qualification such as MSc or PhD.
  • Broad experience within the NHS.
