Job Opportunity: Communications and Outreach for Chagos Conservation Trust

The Brixton Blog - Big Smoke is looking for a skilled professional to fill the role of Communications and Outreach Specialist for the Chagos Conservation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for promoting the Trust's environmental conservation work in the Chagos Archipelago.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Drafting press releases, articles, and direct mail shots to publicise the Trust's work in promoting environmental conservation in the Chagos.
  2. Maintaining contacts with relevant journalists and other media multipliers.
  3. Organising conferences and other meetings for the Chagos Conservation Trust.
  4. Ensuring that the Trust's website and Facebook page are kept up to date with items of relevant topical interest.
  5. Keeping the Trust's membership and other databases up to date.
  6. Helping to correct factual inaccuracies on the Internet about environmental issues in the Chagos.
  7. Helping to enhance the sale of Chagos-related goods via the Trust's website shop and on Diego Garcia itself.

Requirements:

  1. Experience of PR work and website management, with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  2. Good IT skills and experience of website and database management, with familiarity with Mail Chimp, Drupal, and PayPal being desirable.
  3. Previous experience of organising conferences and other meetings.
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  5. An understanding of the UK charity regulatory environment.
  6. A real interest in environmental conservation work.
