About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Travellers Liaison Officer to join our team at East Cambridgeshire District Council. As a key member of our community engagement team, you will play a vital role in building and maintaining relationships with the traveller community, ensuring their integration into the wider community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with travellers in the district, providing support and guidance to assist their integration into the community.
  • Manage and maintain the Council's travellers' sites, ensuring compliance with site conditions and regulations.
  • Collect rents and charges from travellers' sites, ensuring timely and accurate payment.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of site budgets, ensuring financial sustainability.
  • Work directly with all Gypsy, Roma, Traveller families across the district to identify children aged 0-16, ensuring they are known to and engaging with education authorities.
  • Identify and remove barriers to welfare concerning health, social needs, accommodation, education, and financial needs.
Requirements
  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including grade A – C in English and Maths.
  • Experience dealing with the traveller community (preferred but not essential).
  • Good understanding of issues affecting the travelling community.
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
  • Ability to manage conflict and difficult situations.
  • Valid driving license and access to a car.
