Energy Projects Principal

We are seeking a highly experienced Energy Projects Principal to join our EMEA Energy & Water Resources team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in developing energy strategies to scale our grid-connected data centers, identifying and analyzing energy generation and storage technologies, and supporting the design, execution, and implementation of sustainable power solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Energy Strategy Development: Develop and implement energy strategies to scale our grid-connected data centers, ensuring secure, sustainable, and clean energy infrastructure.
- Energy Market Analysis: Analyze energy markets across the EMEA region, identifying systemic risks and opportunities for AWS to stimulate the transition to a cleaner grid.
- Renewable Generation Projects: Identify and develop innovative renewable generation projects and new technologies to support scaling our operations across EMEA.
- Energy Sourcing Opportunities: Work with Amazon partner teams to support the development of strategic energy sourcing opportunities.
- Energy Innovation Projects: Identify and deliver energy innovation projects that reduce cost, are scalable, and support the power grids in which we operate.
- Cost Savings Projects: Identify and develop cost savings projects and initiatives related to energy infrastructure.
- Project Management: Manage energy projects against plans and objectives to ensure commitments are met, delivering against cost savings and sustainability goals.
- Regulatory Affairs: Work with regulators to develop policies and guidelines enabling AWS strategies and objectives.
- Public Policy Support: Support consultation response on energy policy with AWS Public Policy across the EMEA region.
- Experience: 15+ years of experience working across utility/energy/consultancy power systems businesses with a track record of delivering projects in power systems and grid infrastructure, renewable power generation, and power trading or energy procurement.
- Understanding of Power Markets: Proven understanding of power market design and energy markets, with the ability to structure and formulate investment thesis for new technologies.
- Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical skill set to analyze the implications of electrical grid infrastructure systems, energy policies, regulations, and utility tariffs.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Education: Degree in a relevant discipline, with a Master's (MBA/MSc) or relevant post-graduate professional qualification.
- Experience in Renewable Generation: Demonstration of experience in the development and delivery of projects at a utility scale of renewable generation or storage, energy innovation projects, and infrastructure development.
- Experience with Policymakers: Experience working with policymakers, public utility commissions, and other energy regulators.
- IT Infrastructure Experience: Experience of IT infrastructure, data centers, and cloud services.
- Language Skills: Business language is English, with an ability to converse in German, Spanish, Swedish, or French advantageous.
