Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal to lead our Energy Projects team in Emea. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing energy strategies to scale our grid-connected data centers, identifying and analyzing energy generation and storage technologies, and supporting the design, execution, and implementation of sustainable power solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop innovative renewable generation projects and new technologies to support scaling our operations across Emea.
  • Identify systemic risks in power markets and collaborate with partner teams to develop mitigations.
  • Identify opportunities for AWS to stimulate the transition to a cleaner grid and support growth for our customers across Emea.
  • Work with Amazon partner teams to support the development of strategic energy sourcing opportunities.
  • Identify and deliver energy innovation projects that reduce costs, are scalable, and support the power grids in which we operate.
  • Identify and develop cost savings projects and initiatives related to energy infrastructure.
  • Manage energy projects against plans and objectives to ensure commitments are met, delivering against cost savings and sustainability goals.
  • Work with regulators to develop policies and guidelines enabling AWS strategies and objectives.
  • Support consultation responses on energy policy with AWS Public Policy across Emea.
Requirements
  • 15+ years of experience working across utility/energy/consultancy power systems businesses with a track record of delivering projects in power systems and grid infrastructure, renewable power generation, and power trading or energy procurement.
  • Proven understanding of power market design and energy markets, with the ability to structure and formulate investment thesis for new technologies.
  • Exceptional analytical skill set to analyze the implications of electrical grid infrastructure systems, energy policies, regulations, and utility tariffs.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven track record for cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, senior executives, and stakeholders in high-impact situations.
  • International business experience, strong communication skills, and a passionate self-starter.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in a relevant discipline, with a Masters (MBA/MSc) or relevant post-graduate professional qualification.
  • Demonstration of experience in the development and delivery of projects at a utility scale of renewable generation or storage, energy innovation projects, and infrastructure development.
  • Experience working with policymakers, public utility commissions, and other energy regulators.
  • Experience of IT infrastructure, data centers, and cloud services.
  • Business language is English, with an ability to converse in German, Spanish, Swedish, or French advantageous.
