Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Emea Energy team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing energy strategies to scale our grid connected data centres, identifying and analysing energy generation and storage technologies and innovations, and supporting the design, execution and implementation of sustainable power solutions.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of energy markets across the EMEA region, as well as an in-depth appreciation of the variables impacting those markets from a technological, network (grid), policy and regulatory perspective. They will also have experience in developing and delivering pioneering projects, with a strong analytical skill set, financial acumen and a track record of working with utilities, regulators and developers across the energy industry.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Energy Strategy Development: Develop energy strategies to scale our grid connected data centres, identifying and analysing energy generation and storage technologies and innovations.
  2. Power Market Analysis: Identify systemic risks in power markets and identify mitigations in collaboration with partner teams.
  3. Renewable Generation Projects: Identify and develop innovative renewable generation projects and new technologies that support scaling our operations across EMEA.
  4. Strategic Energy Sourcing: Work with Amazon partner teams to support the development of strategic energy sourcing opportunities.
  5. Energy Innovation Projects: Identify and deliver energy innovation projects that reduce cost, are scalable, supporting the power grids in which we operate.
  6. Cost Savings Initiatives: Identify and develop cost savings projects and initiatives related to energy infrastructure.
  7. Project Management: Manage energy projects against plans and objectives to ensure commitments are met, delivering against cost savings and sustainability goals.
  8. Regulatory Affairs: Work with regulators to develop policies and guidelines enabling AWS strategies and objectives.
Requirements
  1. 15+ years of experience working across utility / energy / consultancy power systems businesses with a track record of delivering projects in power systems and grid infrastructure, renewable power generation, and power trading or energy procurement.
  2. Proven understanding of power market design and energy markets, with the ability to structure and formulate investment thesis for new technologies.
  3. 7+ years of demonstrated experience leveraging analytical skill set to analyze the implications of electrical grid infrastructure systems, energy policies, regulations, and utility tariffs.
  4. 7+ years of demonstrated experience managing multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Degree in relevant discipline, with Masters (MBA/MSc) or relevant post-graduate professional qualification.
  2. Demonstration of experience in the development and delivery of projects at a utility scale of renewable generation or storage, energy innovation projects and infrastructure development.
  3. Experience working with policymakers, public utility commissions and other energy regulators.
  4. Experience of IT infrastructure, data centres and cloud services.
  5. Business language is English, with an ability to converse in German, Spanish, Swedish or French advantageous.
