Job Title: Specialist Biomedical Scientist Haematology

We are seeking an experienced Biomedical Scientist to join our Haematology team at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you will play a key role in providing high-quality laboratory services to support patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform validation of analytical data prior to result reporting and selection of suitable blood and blood products.
  • Use specialist knowledge to authorise test results and initiate further tests as appropriate.
  • Ensure data integrity when entering demographics and results into the laboratory information system.
  • Take responsibility for finishing, checking, validating, and authorising colleagues' work as necessary.
  • Monitor and store consumables and reagents, and assume enhanced responsibility in the absence of supervisory and other staff.
  • Participate in developmental work, performing specialised tests when necessary, and assisting in any clinical trials.
  • Work independently at large, offsite, outpatient clinics providing POCT at a satellite laboratory, and visit wards or clinics to perform Bleeding Times on patients.
Requirements:
  • Qualified as an experienced State Registered Biomedical Scientist.
  • HCPC registration.
  • CPD.
  • Significant experience of modern laboratory techniques and good knowledge of current professional issues.
  • Knowledge of specialist Haematology and Transfusion procedures to post-graduate diploma level (or equivalent) acquired through CPD, short courses, and ongoing specialist training.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to supervise and train others.
  • Computer literate - capable of utilising complex proprietary information systems and generic software.
