Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Curator to join our team at Tate St Ives. The successful candidate will have a strong background in art history, with a proven track record of curating exhibitions and working with artists, collectors, and other stakeholders.

The Curator will be responsible for researching, developing, and delivering high-quality exhibitions that showcase the best of modern art. They will also have excellent communication and project management skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

About the Team:

Tate St Ives's exhibitions and displays programme is one of the most innovative and respected in the UK. Our team works closely with artists, curators, and other experts to deliver high-quality exhibitions and displays that engage and inspire audiences.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Research and develop exhibition concepts and proposals, working closely with internal and external stakeholders.
  2. Collaborate with artists, curators, and other experts to deliver high-quality exhibitions and displays.
  3. Liaise with colleagues across the museum to ensure effective delivery of all aspects of the exhibitions and displays programme.
  4. Manage budgets, schedules, and resources to deliver exhibitions on time and within budget.
  5. Develop and maintain relationships with local and regional partners to support the delivery of exhibitions and displays.
  6. Line manage the Assistant Curator, Exhibitions and Displays.

Requirements:

  • A relevant degree and post-graduate degree in the history of art or related field.
  • Substantial work experience in an art gallery, museum, or with a collection.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the capacity to lead and work collaboratively across teams.
  • Effective and proven budget management skills.
  • Excellent organisational, planning and administrative skills, with ability to prioritise and coordinate multiple activities to meet deadlines.
  • Aware of issues of equality and cultural diversity as they affect the work of a major museum.
  • An interest in and commitment to the work of Tate.
