Child and Family Support Worker

Horsham, West Sussex, United Kingdom West Sussex County Council Full time

About Us

West Sussex County Council's Adoption Services is a regional adoption agency delivering adoption services on behalf of 4 local authorities (Surrey, West Sussex, East Sussex, and Brighton and Hove) under a partnership agreement. Our staff are employed by the partner local authorities, but we exist as a separate organisation with our own management structure. This vacancy is hosted by West Sussex County Council, whose terms and conditions of employment would apply.

Our Mission

We work across the footprint of the above 4 local authorities, stretching from the London borders in the North to the South Coast. Our team places up to 100 children in adoptive families each year, as well as supporting families in the early stages and later during the children's growing up years. We recognise that adopting brings both joy and challenges.

Our Approach

We employ staff across the 4 local authorities, but we have adopted a hybrid working model. This means that although you would have an administrative base in Horsham, team members work largely remotely, making best use of technology, with the option to touch base at any of our offices across the region. Regular team meetings are conducted both online and in person at a central base.

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for 2 child and family worker vacancies as follows:

  • Salary: £27,334 to £29,777 per annum (Pro rata salary for 22.2 hours - £16,400 - £17,866)
  • Working Pattern: 1 x Full time - 37 hours per week and 1 x Part time hours per week
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Location: Based at County Hall, Horsham but travel across the Adoption South East region may be required.

Job Summary

We are seeking a couple of dedicated Child and Family Workers to join our Adoption team based in Horsham. The successful candidates will make a positive contribution to the delivery of a high-quality service for prospective adopters, children, and their adoptive families, pre- and post-Adoption Order.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support people who wish to create or extend their family through adoption
  • Ensure that applicants access necessary training and guide them through required checks and references
  • Support adoptive parents and their child's first family to remain connected, following the making of an Adoption Order
  • Organise and run pre-school groups for parents and their children and other events to support adoptive families

Requirements

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Analysis and interpretation skills to manage casework and put in practice a range of interventions to support the children and families in your care
  • Knowledge and understanding of children and young people and age-appropriate behaviour
  • Experience of providing advice and guidance to others
  • Experience of working in a multi-agency setting and building relationships

Benefits

  • An excellent local government pension scheme
  • Generous holiday entitlement of 25 days (plus opportunity to buy additional leave)
  • A range of flexible working options, depending on your job role
  • Maternity, paternity, dependency, and adoption leave
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Training and development opportunities, including coaching and mentoring
  • A range of discounts giving our staff access to hundreds of offers
