About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our Property & Package team in Bristol. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for underwriting open market P&P business across commercial combined and property products with a mid-market focus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite insurance risks in accordance with the Business Plan and personal authority to meet business objectives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including customers, brokers, business partners, and colleagues, to maximize influence
  • Develop relationships in line with the Business Plan to support the achievement of business objectives
  • Understand and comply with QBE reinsurance strategy to minimize risk and deliver business plan objectives
  • Participate fully and use expertise to shape and develop strategy, knowledge, and best practice
  • Positively promote the department, division, and company as a whole to maximize brand leverage
  • Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions, and good practice to minimize risk and maximize efficiency
  • Actively keep abreast of market dynamics and demonstrate market cycle awareness to operate effectively and appropriately
  • Ensure clear and prompt communication to UA's in relation to Underwriting and aggregate exposures, ensuring entries on EO systems are accurate

About You

  • Experience gained within the insurance industry and good knowledge of underwriting property & packaged business
  • Direct or relatable experience in managing new business and generating pipeline
  • Commercial ability to understand key profit drivers to maximize long-term wealth for shareholders
  • Intermediate level understanding of relevant software, including Excel and other departmental software packages
  • Understanding of natural catastrophe areas and ability to analyze modeled results
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to influence actions and attitudes of others through leading by example
  • Negotiating skills, innovative in underwriting approach and program design
  • Use of risk profiling and pricing tools and loss models
