About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Sustainability Manager to join our team at Mace. As a key member of our consult business, you will play a crucial role in establishing and overseeing the projects sustainability and environmental strategy and implementation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Environmental Management: Lead the production, maintenance, and compliance of all environmental management plans, including the identification of significant environmental aspects and impacts.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with HS2 environmental minimum requirements, including general principles, annex 2 - planning memorandum, annex 3 - heritage memorandum, and annex 4 - environmental memorandum. Lead incidents and complaints investigations, ensuring the comprehensive gathering of supporting evidence material and reporting to senior leadership.
  • Site Monitoring and Audits: Oversee monitoring data on site and record environmental performance/compliance, undertaking regular site inspections and audits of construction sites and supply chain operations.
  • Method Statement Reviews: Periodically review method statements and other technical documents to ensure completeness and conformance to contractual and legal requirements.
  • Environmental Risk Management: Build the project-level understanding of any relevant environmental requirements and develop mitigations that will inhibit any impacts on the construction program.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work with planning managers to incorporate key environmental milestones into the program, manage general environmental enquiries, and work with HS2, stakeholder & engagement lead, U&A/consents team, etc. on any environmental requirements affecting the project.
  • Reporting and Record-Keeping: Provide regular and ad-hoc reports on environmental issues, periodically review the environmental processes in the project quality management system with MDJV Euston team, and ensure that the stakeholder record management system is regularly updated.
  • Carbon Reduction: Work with the project team to identify and deliver carbon reduction.
Requirements
  • Project Management Skills: Proven experience in project management, with a strong understanding of environmental management systems compliant with ISO14001:2015.
  • Data Management Skills: Strong data/database management skills, with the ability to analyze and process data, identify trends, and summarize insights.
  • Environmental Knowledge: Excellent knowledge and practical experience of environmental legal requirements, including knowledge of archaeology, air quality, noise and vibration, surface and groundwater, contaminated land, waste, ecology, and built heritage legislation/monitoring.
  • Professional Qualifications: Educated to degree or equivalent, typically in an environmental discipline (or related), with professional membership of an appropriate environmental body (e.g. P/MIEMA).
  • Construction Experience: Construction site experience for infrastructure projects, with experience of working on major construction projects.
