Maintenance Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Maintenance Engineer Apprentice to join our team at Base Materials. As a key member of our production team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our machinery and equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out routine scheduled maintenance work and respond to equipment faults in a timely and efficient manner.
- Deal with emergencies, breakdowns, and repairs, using diagnostic and fault-finding methods to establish root cause and implement effective solutions.
- Check and calibrate instruments to ensure accuracy and precision.
- Breakdowns: Use diagnostic and fault-finding methods to establish root cause and repair plant and equipment, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations at all times, prioritizing the well-being of yourself and others.
- Fit new parts and ensure equipment is working correctly, with a focus on quality and efficiency.
- Ensure continuous cover of machinery and equipment in case of breakdowns, minimizing downtime and disruption.
- Provide training to operators to enable them to perform routine basic maintenance activities, such as cleaning valves.
- Participate in training programs to stay updated with new technologies and best practices in maintenance engineering.
- Collaborate with other departments to address maintenance issues and improve overall efficiencies.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment performance, using data to inform decision-making.
- Manage external contractors while on-site, ensuring effective communication and coordination.
- Assist with new plant builds and installations across the sites, applying your skills and knowledge to ensure successful outcomes.
- A mechanical engineering apprenticeship or qualification, with a strong foundation in industrial or manufacturing settings.
- Industrial or manufacturing background, with experience in electrical and mechanical training or maintenance.
- Working at Heights certification, with a focus on safety and risk management.
- Planned Preventative Maintenance experience, with a focus on minimizing downtime and improving overall efficiency.
- PLC Fault Finding and 3-Phase experience, with a strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Capacity to understand a range of engineering functions and procedures, with a focus on collaboration and communication.
- Team-working skills, with the ability to liaise with people at all levels and build effective relationships.
- Good diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with a focus on logical and methodical approaches.
- Confidence to respond positively when under pressure, with a focus on adaptability and resilience.
- Ability to logically fault find, with a focus on precision and accuracy.
- Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings, with a focus on detail and attention to detail.
- Understanding of hydraulics and compressed air systems, with a focus on application and implementation.
- A competitive salary of £40,000 per annum, with a shift premium of £10 per day and overtime rates applying to weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

37 hours average Monday to Friday, with rotating shifts of 06:00-14:00, 14:00-22:00, or short overlap ensuring cover for 06:00-20:00 hours.
