We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Chemical Pathologist to join our team at Barts Health NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a high-quality service in Chemical Pathology and lipidology and/or metabolic medicine services, ensuring that the highest clinical standards are maintained and developed through evidence-based practice, technological advances, CPD, clinical audit, quality and risk management, job planning, and appraisal.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly and productively with team colleagues across all sites served by the ESEL to achieve the strategic clinical, operational, and business objectives of the service. The post is based in the state-of-the-art Pathology and Pharmacy building at the Royal London hospital in Whitechapel.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Chemical Pathology and lipidology and/or metabolic medicine, with a comprehensive knowledge of laboratory and clinical aspects of the specialty. They will also have evidence of management training and experience, as well as involvement in service development and quality improvement processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a high-quality service in Chemical Pathology and lipidology and/or metabolic medicine services
  • Work flexibly and productively with team colleagues across all sites served by the ESEL
  • Develop and maintain high clinical standards through evidence-based practice, technological advances, CPD, clinical audit, quality and risk management, job planning, and appraisal
  • Contribute to service development and quality improvement processes
  • Undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels

Requirements:

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (or be eligible for registration within six months of date of interview)
  • Applicants who are UK trained must also be holders of a certificate of completion of training (CCT) in Chemical Pathology ± Metabolic medicine, or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
  • PhD or research MD
  • Ability to manage complex lipid and/or metabolic medicine disorders
  • Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory and clinical aspects of chemical pathology and metabolic medicine
  • Evidence of management training and experience
  • Involvement in service development and quality improvement processes
  • Understanding of laboratory accreditation processes and requirements
  • Research projects relating to specialty area(s)
  • Enthusiasm to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
