English Department Leader

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced English Department Leader to join our team at United Learning. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the English department, ensuring that students succeed in the acquisition and development of English language and literature skills and gain appropriate qualifications in the subject/s in the curriculum area.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the English department, ensuring that staff teaching in the curriculum area are well supported in achieving this, with a focus on Entry Level Teachers in particular
* Ensure evaluation and development of the curriculum in English is rigorous and appropriate
* Write, monitor, and revise schemes of work across the key stages
* Delegate the design of schemes of work to appropriate staff and carry out QA on this
* Lead the staff in evaluating their own planning and that of the department
* Lead the staff in ensuring continual development of the curriculum, including enrichment
* Lead on the department's Independent Learning policy
* Act as a subject mentor for ELTs
* Deputise for the CAL at meetings if required
* Keep up to date with subject development
* Carry out QA related to curriculum content, including work sampling and moderation
* Model outstanding to good practice in quality of Teaching and Learning
* Provide leadership in terms of classroom management and behaviour for learning in the classroom and beyond
* Demonstrate sound self-evaluation practices
* Work collaboratively and cooperatively with Middle Leaders and the Senior Leadership Team in promoting high expectations and standards
* Generally and specifically promote development and improvement in literacy, supporting the Literacy Team in leading whole school language and literacy policy
