Job Title: Apprentice Buyer

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Apprentice Buyer to join our team at Mountain Warehouse Ltd. As an Apprentice Buyer, you will play a crucial role in assisting our experienced buyers in sourcing and purchasing high-quality products for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assist in Seasonal Range Plan Development: Analyze customer buying patterns, forecast sales, and predict future trends to inform purchasing decisions.
  2. Buy for Key Territories: Source and purchase products for our UK, EU, and North America markets.
  3. Work with the Head of Buying: Collaborate with our Head of Buying to maximize profits and provide a commercially viable range of merchandise at competitive prices.
  4. Review Stock, Sales, and Orders: Regularly review stock levels, sales data, and orders to ensure sales, stock, and profit targets are met.
  5. Maintain Relationships with Suppliers: Build and maintain strong relationships with our suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of products.
  6. Liaise with Other Departments: Collaborate with other departments to ensure projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
  7. Participate in Promotional Activities: Assist in identifying slow-moving stock, suggesting markdowns or promotions, and coordinating clearance events.
  8. Create Style Books: Develop style books for products, identify opportunities for updates, and liaise with our graphic designer to ensure a consistent brand image.
  9. Manage the Critical Path: Monitor all orders from product development to delivery, ensuring the smooth running of the development process and meeting key deadlines.
  10. Manage Sample Process: Ensure all designs and fabrications are executed correctly, meeting brand requirements.
  11. Lab Dip and Trim Approvals: Approve lab dips and trim approvals and feed back to suppliers.
  12. Train and Mentor: Train and mentor our Buying Assistant in the team.
  13. Approve PTS for Shipments: Approve Purchase Tickets for shipments.
  14. Attend Fit Meetings: Attend fit meetings with our Quality Control team, making suggestions on fit, styling, trims, and signing off samples.

We are looking for someone with:

  1. Relevant experience at Assistant Buyer level within an own-buy retailer.
  2. Experience of fully managing the critical path for their department.
  3. Awareness of competitors and the ability to help keep Mountain Warehouse the best value on the high street.
  4. A confident approach to offering suggestions on product type and quantity given the budgeted OTB.
  5. Good interpersonal skills, able to build and manage relationships with colleagues and suppliers.
  6. Strong IT skills, particularly in Excel or equivalent.
  7. Commercial awareness and the ability to keep up to date with market trends and changes in demand.
  8. Able to fully understand customer needs and demands.
  9. Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
