Power Systems Engineer Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled High Voltage Power Systems Specialist to join our team in London. As a Power Systems Engineer at Hoare Lea, you will play a critical role in delivering innovative and sustainable solutions for our clients.

About the Job

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking design calculations for assessing electrical loads on buildings, sizing utility connections, generators, uninterruptible power supplies, and renewable technologies. You will also be involved in designing and calculating substations and points of connections from LV to HV, as well as conducting load flow, fault level, G5/5 harmonic, and protection studies.

You will have the ability to produce schematic designs, fault discrimination studies, preparing specifications and reports, and carrying out site inspections of surveys and detailed design development.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about power systems and high-voltage design. You will be working with a wide range of built-environment specialists and collaborating on progressive and exciting projects across all sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake design calculations for assessing electrical loads on buildings, sizing utility connections, generators, uninterruptible power supplies, and renewable technologies
  • Design and calculate substations and points of connections from LV to HV
  • Conduct load flow, fault level, G5/5 harmonic, and protection studies
  • Produce schematic designs, fault discrimination studies, and prepare specifications and reports
  • Carry out site inspections of surveys and detailed design development
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • Experience in relevant design software, including ETAP or similar software and Amtech or EOM LV system analysis software
  • Knowledge of power systems high voltage substation design, earthing arrangements, CT calculations, arc flash calculations, differential protection, and stability slopes
  • Power quality capability to undertake studies for G99 export applications, including Harmonics
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with clients and other professionals
