Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and caring Personal Assistant to support our child, H, who has Significant Developmental Delay. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a safe level of care and helping with various activities to improve his speech, language, motor skills, and overall well-being.

H is a very happy child who loves to smile, and we require someone who is confident, enthusiastic, and willing to get involved in anything. When at home, the PA and H will engage in constructive play, including block building, playing with sensory toys, reading together, and working on his balance. The ideal candidate will need to be flexible and able to adapt to H's interests and needs.

The role may also involve supporting physiotherapy exercises to aid H's mobility and supervising him during these activities. Previous experience with Makaton is desirable, as the PA will use this technique to build upon H's knowledge developed at school.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide personal care and ensure H's physical and emotional needs are met
  • Support H with exercises to improve his understanding and mobility
  • Engage in play-based activities to enhance his motor skills
  • Use basic Makaton to facilitate communication and understanding

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a 1-1 carer is essential
  • Show initiative and flexibility in adapting to changing situations
  • Ensure H is supervised at all times during appropriate activities
  • Be sensitive to H's needs and feelings, promoting a secure environment
  • To be able to work unsupervised and make decisions when necessary
  • Communicate effectively with family members and provide regular feedback
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times

Salary: £12 per hour ( estimated salary based on location and industry standards )
